Altronix LPS5C 5A 12VDC Linear Power Supply

12VDC 5A linear (not switching) power supply for noise-sensitive devices — older Wiegand readers, analog intercoms, RF receivers, and any equipment that fails on switching-supply ripple.

Deployment context

Retrofit installations with older readers that report intermittent “ghost reads” under switching power. Pair with analog intercom systems. Backup-power for specific sensitive devices in larger installations.

Load characteristics & current behavior

5A continuous at 12VDC. Linear regulation provides ~1mV ripple (vs 50-100mV typical switching). Heat dissipation higher than switching — must be wall-mounted with airflow, not enclosed.

Failure & backup behavior

Simple architecture, fewer failure modes than switching. No active fault reporting — visual LED status only. AC-failure relay output available on backup-configured models.

UL / safety standards

UL listed (UL60950), CSA. Not UL294 listed — for non-access-control deployments or specific reader/sensor power only.

Runtime considerations

Designed for AC mains operation. Battery backup not standard — pair with separate UPS for backup runtime.
